Speech Pathologists have a tough task. They are charged with helping individuals speak. This may seem like a simple matter, but things get complicated due to medical issues that can effect speaking. For instance, a cleft lip, an enlarged tongue, or perhaps a car accident all lead to issues with speech. Pathologists in this field help rehabilitate, create, and sustain paths towards helping individuals with their speech. Until now, the work has been mostly done on a one-on-one basis. The patient would come to an office and see the pathologist, and hope for the best. But things are changing. In fact, a new exciting methodology is being tested out across the world, and it will shock some.

The Power of The Internet

The internet, as we know it, is a powerful option. It opens up doors for millions of people that would normally not get to see specific things. It can be an encyclopedia, it can be a teacher, and today, it can become a tool that helps Speech Pathologists connect with their patients. In fact, a simple computer and a camera is all that someone needs to start working on articulation, and focus on speech. A pathologist in Australia, can talk to a patient that may be overseas on holiday, or perhaps at university without having to fly, or go visit. Connecting via the internet is the next big jump in speech methodologies.

Meeting People Where They Are

The “Miami Herald” reports, children especially are getting into the framework of this solution. Children today are more apt to learning online than they are in other methods. They already work with computers, and are online a great deal of the time. The more familiar they grow with computing, the more it makes sense for speech to be taught through the computer. An internet connection and a camera, two things that seem so simple, become a doctor’s office when connected with a trained Speech Pathologists. This is a revolutionary transmission that many people will no doubt want to explore on a deeper level.

Complexity Still Questionable

But what about complex situations? That’s one area in which this technology hasn’t been fully tested. While this may help minor issues with speaking, it may not help with complexities that require in depth training and therapy. This technology is new for speech therapy, so time will tell whether or not it can be used for complex situations.

It’s not often that you hear about Chiropractors getting the credit that they deserve. More often than not, professionals in the medical world frown upon these individuals. There are those that outright don’t believe that they can help, and then there are those that see the good work they do and recommend patients to go to them. The latest innovations in this field don’t always get reported either. But the interesting thing today is that they are needed more than ever. Not only that, they are starting to get more and more attention worldwide.

The Worldwide Need For Chiropractors

Chiropractic services help with pain management. They help align the joints, the spine, and assist with a number of sports related injuries. These individuals are trained in a lot of alternative medicines, as well as injury rehabilitation and more. The expertise has improved to a point where the United States Olympic Team is now using Chiropractors for their team. They aren’t alone either. There’s a lot of focus on using specialists and alternative medicine across the Olympic Games this year alone. The athletes that are competing on the world stage are getting treated and cared for by professionals in the chiropractic field, legitimizing the medical elements found here.

Take for instance Dr. Jason Rannfeldt out of Davenport, Iowa. A Chiropractor that has been named a head medical trainer for the United States training facility. He’s also a major director for several major athletes, which means that anything related to the health and wellbeing of athletes will go through him. Dr. Rannfeldt is not alone in this, he’s just one of many trainers that are focused on Chiropractic medicine being called up to the world stage, and it’s starting to proliferate sports medicine as a whole.

Athletes Need Adjustments Often

The reason why Chiropractic services are in such high demand is because professional athletes strain, and pull muscles, joints, and more on a regular basis. To compete at the Olympic level, there’s a constant grind and tear on the body. The mechanics of sports medicine involves alternatives and that’s where a Chiropractor comes into play. They are trained in medicine that helps adjust, align, and keep athletes in top performing shape. Often time’s this is missed by spectators. They just assume athletes are machines, but they aren’t. They need adjustments, and focus on joint care, repair, and rehabilitation all the same. The work that Dr. Rannfeldt is doing for the United States Olympic Team is just one story that showcases the need, growth, and focus of Chiropractic services worldwide.

Innovative Foot Pain Relief Now Available From Podiatrists

Podiatry doesn’t always get the news coverage that it deserves. Doctors in this arena work on pain, surgery, and issues that are found within the feet. The human foot is often times the most ignored part of the body. Without them, we cannot walk, and therefore it’s important to take care of them. Doctors that specialize in this arena are known as Podiatrists. Podiatry has some major break throughs to consider in the past few years, especially a new update in how pain relief is administered.

The Problem With Pain

Pain in the foot can be the result of a great number of things. You are going to find that it could be focused on a major issue, or something minor. You could have stepped wrong, your shoes may not fit right, or you could be dealing with a major issue. Whatever the case is, pain in this area is tough to deal with. Often times, people take analgesics that can help, but what happens when those don’t help? That’s where a doctor can step in. The issues that arise here, however, become significant because pain relief may only be solved with surgery. At least that’s what used to occur.

A New Break Through

News in the podiatry world shifted recently when a group of podiatrists revealed a new way to treat chronic tendon pain in the feet. Their new option is called an EPAT machine. The Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology as it is named, helps with sending pressurized waves into the foot. It helps circulate blood, awaken nerve endings, and charge the tissue in the tendon and foot. This causes cell regeneration, which leads to less and less pain over the course of 5 treatments. Each treatment option doesn’t last more than 10 minutes each, and the application of this option is done topically.

EPAT, as it is being referred to is something that is set to take on in a lot of different health care offices. This is an alternative to surgery, which can pose serious risks. This option produces no side effects, doesn’t cause any pain, and is easy to apply. Treating plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, and even arthritis will now be much easier with this solution. The issue of pain can be tough for millions, but with new innovative ideas like the EPAT solution, many will find relief, without having to have invasive surgery. This method is safe, new, and will be rolled out to doctors in due time.

Dieticians Make Serious Butter Discovery

Dieticians have long told individuals that they shouldn’t eat too much butter. To the point that many don’t eat butter at all, and those that try to eat some, only use margarine. Well, recently it was found out that there’s a new methodology on the horizon. So much so that professionals in the field of nutrition have to rewrite the language of the latest research findings. At first glance, this may seem simple enough, eating butter is healthy for you. Or is it? This is an argument that many people are going to struggle with, but if you look at the role of nutritionists, you may find that there’s a lot to this overall.

What Does The Study Really Say?

The study conducted out of Tufts University focuses on the nutrition and science of what Dieticians have been talking about for years. The latest discover falls in line with the notion that a little bit could in fact help. The reason why is because it can help with delivering certain nutrients. The problem here is the amount. The researchers that were looking into this looked at several cardiovascular elements. They looked into whether or not type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease was caused by diet. The answer was that there are other issues at play. The conclusion of the study has many butter fans excited, as it seems to point to health benefits of eating this product.

Dieticians Not Convinced

The review of the medical journal may have been in the idea that you can eat more fat, but the truth is actually not quite what many want. Dieticians are divided, in that the issue is a matter of high calorie content, and high fat. Even if there are nutrients found in butter, it’s still not a healthy thing to eat a great deal of, and that’s something that is definitely going to cause stress for individuals that are trying to eat healthy.

At the end of the day, it’s important to consider a quote from one of the lead researchers in this study. From “Headlines and Global News” (HNGN), one researcher is quoted stating, "I would say butter is neither good nor bad," said Laura Pimpin of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy at Tufts University, who conducted the study.” This should give clarity to the study. It’s not good nor bad. That leaves the nutritional expertise back in the hands of trained, certified Dieticians.
